CASTLE ROCK, CO : Rylie's parents living moment by moment after car crash on Tuesday, June 6, 2017

White ribbons line the street where Rylie Guentensberger lived with her family, the 12-year-old died from her injuries after a car crashed into a running store where she was shopping for new shoes.

Nearly two weeks after her death, parents Meghann and Ziggy Guentensberger are opening up about their daughter's life and legacy. They also wanted to thank the community for an outpouring of support in the weeks after the accident.

"It’s lifted us up, and to know that there’s been that much of an impact and there’s that much caring and kindness around has helped us through some of the darkest days that we’ve had to go through," said Ziggy.

Her family started a Facebook page called Rally for Rylie to provide updates on her condition. Soon they began receiving messages of support from all over the world.

Rylie's mom, who is also an English teacher, is continuing to write heartfelt posts on the page and share memories.

"I think that’s the most powerful message and thing we’ve taken away from this is the little things Rylie taught us," said Meghann.

No Charges

Authorities in Parker announced Tuesday that charges will not be filed against a driver involved in the crash that killed Rylie. Investigators said the crash was related to a medical condition and no charges will be pursued.

"The driver is a human, as are we, and Rylie had a very strong faith and we know that she would not fault anyone," said Meghann.

Rylie was inside the RNK Running & Walking store in Parker on April 29 when the runaway car tore through the entire length of the store, injuring six other people. She was hospitalized and died from her injuries about a month later.

Memorial Service Information

A memorial service will be held at Philip S. Miller Park on Saturday, June 24 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The park is located at 1375 Plum Creek Pkwy in Castle Rock. The service is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to wear athletic clothes and a touch of blue, Rylie's favorite color. There will be a blessing and an opportunity to share stories or poems.

There are several ways you can help the family honor Rylie. They are asking for people to donate to The Dumb Friends League because Rylie loved animals. They also plan to start a little free library so they're asking for donations of books. After spending weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit, they also want to make care packages for families with a sick child.
