Maitland, FL : Truck flips, crashes into sewing business in Maitland on Tuesday morning, May 17, 2016
A pickup truck driver trying to avoid a collision instead crashed into a sewing business Tuesday morning near Maitland.
According to the 28-year-old driver of the pickup, he was cut off by another driver on U.S. 17-92 near Spartan Drive and then swerved to avoid a crash.
However, he hit the gas pedal when he saw he was in the path of two oncoming vehicles, so he gunned it to get over the median. Then he swiped a pole, ran over a tree and flipped his truck. That’s how he ended up upside down into the Sewing Studio's building.
“There were two that were coming from northbound traffic, so he applied the gas to get out of their way and then hit the curb in which he lost a tire and hit a pole, which caused him to overturn,” Florida Highway Patrol Master Trooper Derrick Kuiper said.
Sewing Studio owner Pat Sauer said the truck hit a classroom where they teach people to sew, but the retail portion of the business was untouched.
"I’m just in complete disbelief," Sauer said.
The driver incurred cuts and bruises, and the building sustained heavy damage.
