One person is dead following a two-car accident on Interstate 68 Sept. 30.
According to a press release from Morgantown Police Department, officers responded to a collision on U.S. 119 (Grafton Road) at the intersection with the I-68 east bound on-ramp at about 6:18 p.m.
According to police, a Nissan Xterra driven by Kelley Lee Deem, of Harpers Ferry, was attempting to turn left from Grafton Road onto the I-68 on ramp. The second vehicle, a Ford F-350 driven by Matthew Alan Roth, of Parsons, was traveling south on Grafton Road in the left-hand lane. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane of Grafton Road.
The drivers of both vehicles along with a passenger of the Xterra were transported to Ruby Memorial hospital.
Unfortunately, police said, the passenger of the vehicle driven by Deem was pronounced deceased a short time after arriving at the hospital. The name of the passenger is being withheld pending notification of family.
The accident resulted in damage to the traffic signals for the intersection, rendering them inoperable. The Department of Highways was notified and will be working to restore the lights.
The incident will be further investigated by the Morgantown Police department.
