Lee County, FL : 15-year-old Port Charlotte girl died in a crash on I-75 in Lee County on Wednesday night, March 25, 2015

A 15-year-old girl from Port Charlotte was killed Wednesday night after a tire malfunction caused the vehicle she was riding on to overturn and crash on Interstate 75.

Alodia Rodriguez, 15, died in the crash, which happened around 9:30 p.m. on the northbound lanes of I-75 south of the Alico Road exit.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the tread on the right rear tire separated, causing the driver - Alina Barroso - to lose control of the vehicle.

Barroso, 39, of Port Charlotte, over-corrected and veered off the side of the road where it rotated and overturned.

The vehicle, a Mazda Millenia, struck and wooden fence and ended up on its roof. Barroso and another 15-year-old passenger were taken tot he hospital for minor injuries.

Rodriguez, who was riding in the front, was pronounced dead on the scene. The FHP report says all aboard were wearing their seat belt.
