Prewitt, N.M : Woman dead after car crashes into semi on Interstate 40 near Prewitt on Friday, July 29, 2016
Authorities say a woman has died after a passenger vehicle rear-ended a semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 40 near Prewitt.
New Mexico State Police say the incident happened around 1 p.m. Friday.
Investigators say it appears the semi was merging onto an eastbound lane when the other car, also going east, hit it.
A passenger in the front seat of the car suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
Authorities identified her as 52-year-old Helen Larry of Pillow Crest.
The three others in that care were transported to hospitals. But their injuries are not life-threatening.
The semi driver was not hurt.
Investigators say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
