Nashville, TN : Woman hurt in Thursday crash to face charges on Thursday, January 19th 2017
A Greenbrier woman is facing drug and traffic charges after troopers say she failed to stop at a stop sign, pulled out in front of another vehicle and suffered serious injuries from the resulting crash at the intersection of Highway 257 and New Cut Road on Thursday.
Jolee D. Birdwell, 19, was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after emergency workers had to cut her out of her 1999 Honda Civic immediately following the crash, which occurred just after 5:20 p.m. on Thursday.
Birdwell failed to stop her Honda at the posted sign on New Cut Road, turned the car onto the highway and was hit by a westbound 2008 Ford Pickup, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report on the incident.
The driver of the pickup, identified as William B. Lambert, 33, of Springfield, was wearing a seatbelt at the time and his three-year-old passenger was properly restrained in a car seat, the report notes.
Both father and son sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to Robertson County EMS Assistant Director Russell Gupton.
“They probably went (to the hospital) by car later,” Gupton said of the pair. “Just not with us.”
Emergency responders closed the area around the crash for about an hour while they worked Thursday to extract Birdwell from her vehicle, Gupton said.
Her injuries were serious enough to warrant an evaluation by a trauma physician, he added.
Birdwell was listed in stable condition as of Friday morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Once she is released from the hospital, she will face charges of failure to stop at stop sign, due care, simple possession and drug paraphernalia in connection with the incident, according to the THP’s preliminary report.
In addition to the THP and Robertson County EMS, the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department and Robertson County Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene, according to a Robertson County dispatcher.
