A Bradenton man died Friday night after driving his car on the wrong side of the road and hitting a truck that tried to avoid the collision, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The report says that a 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling eastbound on State Road 70 approaching the intersection with Myakka Wauchula Road when it began traveling in the westbound lanes. The driver of the Freightliner semi-truck traveling westbound on S.R. 70 applied the brakes and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the oncoming car.
The Toyota struck the truck, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck's driver and his passenger reported no injuries.
The 54-year-old driver's name was not released, pending notification of next of kin. The truck driver and his passenger were not injured.
