Five people were hurt in a crash hours before the Red, Hot and Boom celebration in Altamonte Springs.
Westbound traffic on State Road 436 near Interstate 4 was blocked after two cars collided at Altamonte Drive and Douglas Avenue about 10:30 a.m.
State Road 436 is the main route for the more than 150,000 people expected to attend the city’s annual Red, Hot and Boom Independence Day celebration at Crane's Roost Park.
Two children were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The other victims were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital-Altamonte.
A 10-year-old child and a woman suffered critical injuries, officials said.
Authorities said it took firefighters 14 minutes to cut one of the victims out of a car.
S.R. 436 reopened just after 1 p.m., and no delays were reported heading toward Crane's Roost Park.
The Altamonte Springs Police Department is investigating the crash.
