Anniston, AL : One person injured after a two-vehicle accident near Lenlock Lane on Tuesday, April 19, 2016
A two-vehicle accident Tuesday sent one to UAB Hospital in a helicopter around 1:30 p.m., and blocked both lanes of Noah Medders Parkway.
Joseph Austin, 45, of Alexandria, was driving his 2002 Chevrolet pickup when a tire blew out and he lost control, according to a news release sent by State Trooper spokesman Chuck Daniel.
“The Chevy pickup crossed the centerline and struck a 1999 Camaro driven by Alicia Thornton,” Daniel said. Thornton, 43, is of Eastaboga, he said.
Anniston fire trucks parked in both lanes blocked the road near Lenlock Lane and a State Trooper patrol SUV blocked the other end. In between the two roadblocks the red pickup truck and a silver Camaro sat perpendicular to each other.
A helicopter took off from the parking lot of the Calhoun County Sports Complex, where an Anniston EMS ambulance sat after driving Jenny Lee Stephens, 55, of Anniston, about half a mile from the accident scene. Stephens was the passenger in the Camaro, Daniel said.
The pickup had a crumpled hood and the right wheel was bent in towards the engine while the Camaro’s passenger side was crushed, the hood pushed up, and door broken off.
Austin was taken to Regional Medical Center in Jacksonville by a private vehicle and Thornton was not injured, Daniel said.
