A 58-year-old woman was killed and a 54-year-old man was injured Friday night when a car involved in a collision struck them while they were walking in Chicago's Portage Park community, police said.
About 9 p.m., a 2002 Toyota was traveling west in the 4700 block of West Addison Street when it struck a 2006 Toyota SUV that was turning onto Keating Avenue, police said.
The older-model Toyota then veered onto the sidewalk and hit two pedestrians before it crashed into a building, police said.
Both pedestrians were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where one of them, the 54-year-old man, was stabilized. The other victim, Edith Guevara of the 3000 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, was pronounced dead at 10:02 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The driver of the Toyota SUV, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to Community First Hospital where her condition was stabilized, officials said.
The driver of the older-model Toyota, a 65-year-old woman, refused medical treatment at the scene, but she was written two citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to remain in lane, police said.
The Chicago Police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
