Motorcyclist killed in Manatee County crash

A 28-year-old motorcyclist died in a collision in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Travis L. Podgis, of Warner, New Hampshire, died after at a collision on U.S. 41 and State Road 70 at 3:20 p.m. on Friday, according to a news release.Podgis was traveling southbound on U.S. 41 in the center lane on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Andrew Crone, 26, of Bradenton, was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 and was in the left turn lane.Crone reportedly attempted a left-hand turn onto State Road 70 and failed to yield to Podgis. Podgis veered to the left to avoid hitting Crone's car.Podgis fell off and landed in the intersection. His motorcycle overturned and slid southbound on its right side, according to the report.Crone, who was not injured, pulled over in the right lane of State Road 70 just west of U.S. 41. When Trooper's arrived, Podgis's motorcycle was found on its right side in the middle of the intersection facing west.There were no skid marks at the scene. Charges are pending according to the report.
