La Porte City , IA : Two persons injured in a pickup truck semi crash at Highway 218 on Thursday ,April 21st, 2016

A pickup truck driver was taken to the hospital Thursday morning following a collision with an oncoming semi. The semi driver was also injured.

Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies identified the pickup driver as Jayson Ashenbrenner, 18, of Dysart, and the semi driver as Joseph Baldridge, 52, of Vinton. Medics with La Porte City Ambulance took Ashenbrenner to Covenant Medical Center

in Waterloo, and Baldridge to Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. The conditions weren’t available, but deputies said their injuries aren't life threatening.

The accident happened around 7:05 a.m. on Highway 218 just south of the La Porte City limits when the southbound Dodge Ram pickup apparently drifted onto the shoulder and then veered into the Freightliner semi’s path, according to Black

Hawk County Sheriff’s deputies.

Crews with the La Porte Fire, La Porte police and Iowa State Patrol also assisted at the scene.
