Ocala, FL : Man remains hospitalized after car crashes into semi rig on Monday afternoon, February 6, 2017

A man remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday after the car he was driving ran into the back of a semi truck and trailer on Monday afternoon.

Ocala Police Department officers said Antonio Turner, 38, was driving a 2004 Toyota Solara. The semi, driven by Jennifer Suillivan, 44, of Interlachen, was stopped at the traffic signal in the 2700 block of U.S. 27 in the inside lane. For an unknown reason, Turner, who was driving in the outside lane, switched to the inside lane and ran into the back of the truck and trailer rig. His car went underneath the trailer.

Ocala Fire Rescue workers had to remove the roof of the Toyota to extract Turner.

Officials said it did not appear that speed was a factor. They said Turner did not brake before the crash, which occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Turner was not wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

The semi driver was not injured, police said.
