Memphis, TN : Two people dead after crash on Watkins Street on Friday, Aug 7, 2015

Two people died after a crash near the intersection of Thomas Street and Watkins Street on Friday.

One of the two men killed was identified as Tony Maclin.

Investigators said the car was speeding when the front tire blew out, causing the car to lose control and hit an iron fence. The car also spun in the air and hit several trees. Both the driver and passenger were thrown out of the car.

"I wish it wouldn't have happened like this," said Kearney Hopkins, a family friend. "I wish it could have been avoided."

Hopkins said Maclin's uncle was the other person in the car.

Family members said they are still trying to process what happened, but they said this is a reminder to always wear your seatbelt.

"It's just reminds you how much you missed folks and you don't know how much you miss them until their gone," Hopkins said.
