Fort Walton Beach, Florida
A New Orleans woman is hospitalized in critical condition following a rear-end collision on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County.
According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Rebecca A. Kalmbach, 27, of New Orleans, was traveling west on I-10 in a 2012 Buick LaCrosse at 1:57 a.m. Thursday when she failed to slow and slammed into the back end of a 1998 Ford dump truck driven by 60-year-old Keith Mitchell Wallace of Milton.
The LaCrosse traveled 80 feet before coming to a final rest following impact at the 41 mile marker on the highway. The dump truck was able to be moved to the shoulder of I-10 after the collision.
Kalmbach was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where she is listed in critical condition. Wallace and a passenger, 25-year-old Levi Benjamin Wallace of Milton, suffered minor injuries and were both treated at Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton.
Reports said the accident caused a lengthy backup of traffic headed westbound on the highway.
FHP noted alcohol was not involved in the crash and that charges are pending.
