Gaston County, NC : Woman killed, husband injured after colliding with a garbage truck on US-74 in Gastonia on Tuesday morning, December 22, 2015

A woman was killed and her husband was injured after colliding with a garbage truck in Gastonia Tuesday morning, closing Franklin Boulevard for more than four hours.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. on US-74.

Leslie Barrientos, 31 of Gastonia, and her husband, Moises Barrientos, were driving south on South Chester Street when their Ford Fusion collided with the garbage truck, officials say.

Leslie Barrientos died at the scene and her husband was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The garbage truck driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials are still investigating what exactly caused the crash. Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
