Jefferson City, MO : A one-car crash that killed one man and injured two others in Lincoln County on Saturday, August 19, 2017
Speed is being blamed for a one-car crash that killed one man and injured two others in Lincoln County Saturday night, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened on Route V east of Henry Harris Lane in Lincoln County just before 11 p.m. Nicholas L. Spencer, 18, of Bowling Green was fatally injured in the crash. He died after being taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.
Spencer was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jeffery W. Holden, 32, of Bowling Green. James S. Ortega, 17, of Bowling Green, was also a passenger in the car. Ortega was taken to Mercy Hospital in Lincoln County with minor injuries, troopers said. Holden was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Holden was traveling too fast and lost control on a curve, hitting a guardrail on the left side of the road and then going down an embankment. Ortega was wearing a seatbelt, but Holden and Spencer were not, troopers said.
