Union City,CA : Mission Blvd. reopens after double-fatal crash in Union City on April, Sunday 22th 2018

All lanes of Mission Boulevard have reopened but an investigation continues after a fatal crash, police said Sunday.

At 3:03 p.m., police dispatchers took several calls reporting an apparent major-injury collision on Mission at Lafayette Avenue.

Officers responded to the intersection and found a silver Mercedes sedan and a tow truck had collided, with the Mercedes driver and passenger suffering from injuries.

Alameda County firefighters and paramedics also responded and provided emergency care, but the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, and was pronounced dead soon after arriving, police said.

The victims’ names were not released, pending next-of-kin notification, and the tow truck’s driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Traffic on Mission in northbound and southbound directions was closed between Lexington Avenue and Tamarack Drive for more than five hours, reopening shortly after 8:30 p.m..
