Deland ,FL : One person injured after crash and suspect identified on early saturday morning ,August 8th 2015
Volusia County sheriff's deputies captured a suspected carjacker after a pursuit early Saturday morning.
Officials said a 38-year-old Daytona Beach man stopped at the Kangaroo Express gas station on East International Speedway Boulevard near DeLand.
Investigators said the motorist saw a man, who was identified as Darrion Tompert, 21, get into the vehicle, and when the motorist ran to his vehicle and confronted Tompert, there was a struggle. They said the motorist was forced out of the car and briefly dragged through the parking lot as Tompert fled.
The victim declined medical treatment, Volusia County Sheriff's Office spokesman Gary Davidson said.
A deputy saw the speeding vehicle on East International Speedway Boulevard near Tomoka Farms Road minutes later. Deputies deployed stop sticks and flattened some of the vehicle's tires.
Officials said Tompert continued to flee from pursuing deputies and drove to Daytona Beach, and the vehicle eventually came to rest against a home on May Street. The home was not damaged.
Investigators said Tompert fled on foot and was captured by a Sheriff's Office K-9 unit about 7:25 a.m. in the 400 block of Pleasant Street.
Davidson said the investigation continues, and it's believed that people in another vehicle drove Tompert to the scene where he committed the crime.
