KEARNEY, NE : Keaschall dies from injuries in work site accident on Tuesday, 8th November 2016
Kurt Keaschall died from injuries he suffered last week after falling 25 feet in the bucket of a Dawson Public Power District boom truck.
Sherman County Attorney Mark Eurek said he was notified Tuesday morning that Keaschall, 46, of Pleasanton died at Kearney’s Good Samaritan Hospital, where he had been since the June 6 accident northwest of Hazard.
“Dawson Public Power District employees are deeply saddened by Kurtis Keaschall’s death. We lost a good man today,” Robert Heinz, DPPD’s general manager, said in a Tuesday news release. “He was a good friend and a highly respected co-worker. He is greatly missed.”
Keaschall, a Ravenna native, was in the aerial device of the bucket truck removing hardware from power poles when, DPPD says, the fiberglass bucket he was standing in gave way and fell to the ground.
A second DPPD employee and other people, including two volunteer firefighters, were working at the site when Keaschall fell.
Keaschall worked for DPPD for 26 years. He had worked as a member of a construction crew based in Lexington, as a maintenance lineman based at the Kearney service center and was named chief area serviceman at the Ravenna service center in 2001.
“Our hearts go out to Kurtis’s family. We continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” Heinz said.
An online CaringBridge page has been established for Keaschall. The accident remains under investigation.
