Phelps, NY : Injured driver wanders 9 hours in upstate New York woods after fiery car crash on Wednesday, September 17, 2014
Authorities say a 30-year-old man is recovering after he spent the night wandering through the woods following the crash of his car on a western New York road.
WHAM-TV reports that the Ontario County Sheriff's Office says Phillip DeCook of Seneca Castle crashed his car around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Phelps, 25 miles southeast of Rochester.
Deputies say the car went down an embankment and hit several trees before landing on its roof and catching on fire.
Authorities say it appears DeCook was ejected from the vehicle and became disoriented. Deputies say he spent about nine hours walking through the woods before he was found by a passerby.
DeCook was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he's in satisfactory condition.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
