A sheriff deputy from Michigan was killed in a hit-and run-crash off Universal Boulevard in Orlando Sunday night, despite using safety measures at a crosswalk.
Deputy vacationing from Michigan hit, killed
Jennifer Garringer was struck crossing Universal Blvd.
Yashpaul Boodram was arrested for leaving scene of deadly crash
Florida Highway Patrol suspects the driver of the car involved was under the influence.
Jennifer Garringer just celebrated her one-year wedding anniversary and was vacationing in Orlando with her husband, when the deadly crash happened.
Garringer was walking across Universal Boulevard when troopers say Yashpaul Boodram’s Lexus hit her. FHP says Boodram fled the scene, but a security guard in the area followed him and convinced him to return after getting his license tag number.
“We obviously always want to caution people when you interject yourself into a criminal situation, but without him injecting and getting the tag number and getting this guy to come back, we may have never found this vehicle,” said Sergeant Kim Montes with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Boodram was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and FHP says he could face more charges when blood-alcohol tests come back.
