Mooresville, NC : One person injured after multi-vehicle crash involving tractor trailer on Interstate 77 in Mooresville on Tuesday, April 7, 2015

Emergency crews responded after a multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 77 in Mooresville Tuesday.

The wreck happened just before 4 p.m. on southbound I-77 near mile marker 32, which is between the Langtree Road and Highway 21 exits.

Officials have not released much information about the crash, but the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said I-77 southbound was completely closed at the scene.

Firefighters said a total of eight vehicles, including a tractor trailer, were involved in the crash.

The tractor trailer, which was halfway off the roadway and on a guard rail, had heavy front-end damage. A black SUV appeared to have struck the side of the trailer, going partially underneath.

A second SUV was just behind the black SUV which ran under the trailer. That vehicle also had front-end damage.

A black sedan with damage to the passenger side was also in the roadway near the tractor trailer.

Firefighters said one person was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center with injuries. That person, whose name has not been released, is expected to be okay.

Officials have not said what may have caused the crash or if any charges are being filed.
