Jackson, MS : Police look for person suspected in Vernon County crash on Thursday, October 6th, 2016
The Vernon County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man after a pickup truck crashed into a tree off Highway 35 and fled, police said.
Joseph Obert, 21, of Genoa, is the presumed driver of the truck, but when Vernon County authorities arrived at the scene after 11 a.m. no one was in the truck, Sheriff John Spears said.
The car was partially submerged in the Mississippi River at the edge of the highway near Genoa Fish Hatchery, and it appeared to have been there for hours, Spears said.
Genoa Fire Department and first responders searched the surrounding area and in the water but were unable to locate anyone, Spears said. He said the driver had fled.
Spears said the driver appeared to have been injured, based on evidence from the scene.
Anyone with information about the location of Obert can call the Sheriff's Office at 608-637-2123.
