Morganton, N.C : One injured in interstate collision on Monday afternoon, March 6, 2017
Morganton, North Carolina
One woman was injured after side-swiping a transfer truck on Interstate 40 on Monday afternoon.
Nina Coursey, 79, of Morganton, was in the left lane driving eastbound on Interstate 40 near the 114 mile marker when she attempted to switch lanes and struck the back left tire of the tractor-trailer causing her to lose control of her vehicle, said Trooper K. Robinson with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
“She ran off the right (side) of the road into the guardrail,” Robinson said.
Coursey was issued a lane control violation.
The wreck occurred around 5 p.m. and Coursey was taken to Carolinas HealthCare Systems Blue Ridge in Morganton with non-life threatening injuries, he said.
“It was just mainly precautions … I spoke with her briefly there in the ER room and she was conscious and alert,” Robinson said.
There was no one else in the vehicle with Coursey and no other injuries due to the wreck, he said.
Lovelady firefighters assisted by providing patient care and securing the vehicle of any additional hazards, said Winfield Abee, fire chief for Lovelady Fire and Rescue.
