Longview, TX : 2 killed in wreck involving 5 tractor-trailers on I-20 on Thursday, January, 4th 2018
Two people were killed in an early Thursday morning pileup of five tractor-trailer trucks on I-20 just east of Longview. The mess closed westbound lanes of the interstate for more than 13 hours before they reopened just before 5 p.m.
State troopers and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office responded about 4 a.m. Thursday to the crash near mile marker 601 between Hallsville and Longview.
Traffic was rerouted via exit 604 near Hallsville throughout the day as investigators worked and debris was cleaned up.
The Department of Public Safety said later its investigation showed four trucks were stopped sometime before 4 a.m. after an earlier wreck. The fifth truck did not slow or stop in time and slammed into the vehicles ahead, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Killed were the driver and passenger of the fifth truck, who were declared dead at the scene.
They were identified as driver Jimmy Crisenberry, 66, of Allen, Oklahoma, and passenger Judy Milburn, 52, of Oklahoma City.
Two other truck drivers were hurt.
They were taken to Longview Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
Westbound traffic was rerouted as crews used heavy equipment to empty accordioned semi-trailers, cleaned up freight that was scattered after the crash and clear remaining freight so the vehicles could be hauled away.
The investigation was continuing late Thursday.
