Hagerstown, MD : Tractor-trailer crash snarls traffic on I-81 on Wednesday, June 21, 2017
The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 were shut down Wednesday morning for about three hours after a tractor-trailer went over an embankment and flipped on its side just south of the Potomac River bridge, the Berkeley County (W.Va.) Sheriff's Department said.
Jeffrey Holtz, 45, of Louisiana, the driver of the rig, was taken to Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, according to a sheriff's department news release.
The crash, which led authorities to divert traffic onto U.S. 11, remains under investigation, the sheriff's department said Wednesday afternoon.
Maryland State Police reported that traffic was backed up to the 5-mile marker in Washington County as a result of the crash.
