Longmont,CO : 2 drivers injured in head-on crash on U.S. 287 north of Longmont on June, Wednesday 21th 2017
Two drivers were taken to the hospital — one with life-threatening injuries — following a serious head-on collision Wednesday morning at the intersection of U.S. 287 and Yellowstone Road, just north of Longmont.
The crash closed 287 for hours.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said the call initially was reported at 7:34 a.m. as a two-vehicle crash, and a third vehicle became involved after hitting debris.
He said the investigation has revealed that a 2001 Nissan Sentra and a 2002 Toyota Camry were involved in a head-on collision, and a 2002 Subaru hit debris from the first crash.
Out of the two people injured, he said, the 25-year-old Longmont man driving the Nissan was transported with serious injuries by ambulance to Longmont United Hospital.
The 32-year-old male driver of the Toyota, who is from Loveland, was transported with life-threatening injuries by helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Lewis said.
The 26-year-old Louisville man driving the Subaru was not injured.
"Right now, I don't have an approximate cause as they still are working on it actively," Lewis said.
He said speed is being considered a factor, but drugs and alcohol are not.
