Augusta, GA : One person killed in I-20 crash on Monday, March 6th 2017
A multiple-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 20 killed one person and caused several injuries.
Columbia County sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said the crash occurred at exit 191 and involved four vehicles. It forced a temporary closure of the westbound lanes.
Coroner Vernon Collins said that a male driver was attempting to slow down or move over due to ongoing road work in the area when he was hit from behind by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Two other vehicles also collided. Collins said the car with the fatality victim was crushed to half of its original size.
The victim, whose identification is awaiting next of kin notification, was wearing his seat-belt, which had to be cut off before he could be removed from the vehicle.
Collins said the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 a.m.
