Former Duquesne basketball player killed in I-70 crash in South Strabane

A Canonsburg man who had played basketball for Duquesne University was killed today in a crash on I-70 in South Strabane, officials said.

Brian L. Anselmino, 45, was driving east around 12:55 p.m. when a westbound vehicle lost control, crossed the median and hit his car head-on, Washington County coroner Tim Warco said.

Mr. Anselmino died at 2:14 p.m. from blunt force trauma, the coroner said. A passenger in his car was taken to the hospital. Two other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Mr. Anselmino played for Duquesne from 1987-90 and was captain of the 1990 team. During his junior and senior seasons, he started every game. Mr. Anselmino averaged 13.0 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game his senior season. He was a graduate of Ringgold High School in Washington County and earned a bachelor's degree in business from Duquesne. He most recently worked as a manager for a medical device company.

State police are investigating the crash.

The South Strabane Fire Department and Ambulance & Chair Service assisted at the scene.
