Two Central Davidson High School students were killed Wednesday morning when their vehicle was hit head on.
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Everette Ribelin, at 7:31 a.m., a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Terry Hill, 31, of Denton, was traveling southeast on N.C. 47 just north of Summersville Church Road when the vehicle went left of center. The Grand Prix collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic traveling northwest. The Grand Prix came to rest in the northwest travel lane and caught fire.
Riding in the Sonic were the driver, Cameron Hedrick, 19, and Anna Ascencion, 17, both of Lexington and students at Central Davidson. The Sonic came to rest on the left shoulder of the road.
The two students died at the scene. Hill was transported to Baptist Hospital for what Ribelin called non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Ribelin, Hill was charged with DWI based on medication. Other charges are pending as the investigation continues.
