Rushville, IN : One person died in crash on State Road 44 in Rush County on Thursday afternoon, Oct 8, 2015
One person died in a crash just east of Rushville Thursday afternoon. It happened around 12:40 pm on State Road 44.
When Indiana State troopers arrived, they found a pickup truck engulfed under the rear of a trash truck in the westbound lane. Fire units were brought in to put out the fire.
Police say the trash truck was stopped in the westbound lane to pick up trash when a westbound 2013 GMC pickup pulling a trailer ran into the back of the trash truck and burst into flames.
The driver, who was the only person in the GMC, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rush County coroner. The coroner is still working on identifying the victim.
The trash truck driver was uninjured.
The crash closed State Road 44 for about three hours.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Rushville Fire and Rush Memorial EMS; Rushville City Police and the Rush County Sheriff's Department; Russell Township Fire Department as well as INDOT units that assisted with the road closure and traffic direction.
