Northampton County, PA : Two people died in a Multi-vehicle fatal crash closed portion of Route 145 in Northampton County on Sunday, November 9, 2014
Two people died after a car crash Sunday afternoon in front of a home in the 100 block of Riverview Drive in Lehigh Township, according to the Northampton County coroner.
Coroner Zachary Lysek on Monday identified one of the victims at Jacoby D. Hill, 18, whose last known address was on Maryland Circle in Whitehall Township.
Lysek said a second person involved in the crash was taken to Palmerton Hospital and died there. Lysek said that death is being handled by the Carbon County Coroner's Office, which has jurisdiction over Palmerton Hospital.
That office did not immediately return a message seeking information on the second victim.
Lysek said Hill was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which was first reported at 1:42 p.m. He said the cause and manner of Hill's death remain under investigation.
Lehigh Township police Chief Scott Fogel said the three-vehicle wreck remains under investigation and the Northampton County District Attorney's Office is now involved. It's too early, he said, to discuss the possibility of criminal charges in the case.
Fogel said authorities are still trying to piece together what happened during the Sunday afternoon crash. He said the 18-year-old victim was the passenger of a Chrysler Cirrus driven by a 17-year-old male from Bath -- who was not identified because of his age.
Fogel said the Cirrus was northbound on Riverview Drive when it appeared to cross into the southbound lane and strike head-on a Pontiac Bonneville driven by Jeffrey Suranofsky, 19, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Fogel said the second individual who was killed in the crash was a passenger in the Bonneville, as was a 1-year-old child who only suffered minor injuries.
A Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, driven by 65-year-old Ronald Wechsler, of Coplay, was the third vehicle involved in the crash, according to Fogel, though its role in the wreck remained unclear. The extent of Wechsler's injuries were not immediately available, according to Fogel.
