Gaston County, N.C : Sewage leaks after truck crashes in Gaston County on May 19, 2014

A vehicle accident in Gaston County led to the leak of hazardous material, according to officials.

The wreck happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Highway 321 South at Stagecoach Road, which is near Davis Park.

Officials have not released much information, but say the accident involved a truck that was leaking treated sewage.

The sewage, the officials said, was contained a short time later and did not get into any water supply.

Police have not said what may have caused the wreck, but did say that the driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

Highway 321 was shut down around the scene. Drivers should use caution and avoid the area if possible.
