Reno, NV : 58-year-old woman killed and two injured in head-on crash Interstate 80 Friday December 18 2015
A 58-year-old woman driving an SUV the wrong way on Interstate 80 with its lights off has been killed in a head-on crash on the edge of Reno that also injured two people in the other car, one critically.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says both eastbound lanes of I-80 were shut down for about four hours after the collision just west of Reno at 4:41 a.m. Friday.
Investigators say the victim, Elaine Sands of Reno, was heading westbound in the eastbound slow lane when her 1994 Subaru smashed into a 2012 Toyota Yaris driven by 51-year-old Daniel Owens of California.
Owens is reported in stable condition at a Reno hospital. His passenger, 25-year-old Kayla Sturges of California, remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
Witnesses say the Subaru didn't have its headlights on. The patrol is investigating.
