Chicago, IL : 4 children among 6 injured in pin-in crash in the 3400 block of North Elston Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood on Thursday, 5th September 2019

Four children, one as young as a year old, were hurt when the driver of an SUV crossed the center line and plowed into a minivan, two parked cars and a traffic control device before flipping his vehicle, police said Thursday.
About 6:10 a.m. Chicago police officers and firefighters were called to the crash in the 3400 block of North Elston Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood, according to Karie James, a police spokeswoman. Four vehicles were damaged in the crash, which required at least one person be extricated from a vehicle after becoming pinned in, officials said.
Kellie Bartoli, a police spokeswoman, said a 45-year-old man was driving north on Elston with a 46-year-old female passenger when he crossed the center line and hit the minivan, which was driven by a 28-year-old woman. The minivan also contained at least four kids, all of whom were injured in the crash but are expected to recover from their injuries, Bartoli said. The children were a 9-year-old boy, an 8-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, Bartoli said.
“All are expected to be OK and are expected be discharged shortly,” Bartoli wrote in an email nearly five hours after the crash.
