Wausau, WI : 22-year-old Coloma man dead, 4 hurt in semi-truck/car crash on I-39, south of Wausau on Wednesday, March 16, 2016

A 22-year-old Coloma man was killed and four other people hurt when their car crashed into a semi-truck on Interstate 39 and ended up a ditch south of Wausau, the State Patrol said.

Sgt. Carrie Johnson said the crash just north of the Portage-Marathon county line occurred about 10 a.m. Wednesday as heavy, wet snow fell in the area.

According to Johnson, the passenger car with five people was passing the semi-truck in the left lane when the car lost control, the semi struck the right back rear of the car and the car skidded into the ditch.

The man killed was in the back seat.

The car, a 1993 Ford Taurus, was being driven by a 48-year-old man, and the other male passengers, ages 21, 23 and 25, were all from Coloma area, the State Patrol said. All were taken to a Wausau hospital with undetermined injuries.

The semi-truck driver, a 51-year-old man, was not hurt. His rig was from Beamsville, Ontario, Canada, the State Patrol said.
