Spartanburg ,SC :66-year-old Burton James Dillingham Jr Killed after hit by driver on Wednesday night ,September 2nd 2015

A person walking on Business 85 in Spartanburg County was hit and killed Wednesday night, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred around 10:18 p.m. near mile marker 6, according to troopers.

The pedestrian was walking in the road when he was hit by a driver going north, troopers said. That driver was taken by EMS to Spartanburg Regional Hospital. No passengers were in the car.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the pedestrian as 66-year-old Burton James Dillingham Jr. of Louisiana. Clevenger said Dillingham was wearing dark clothing which made him invisible to the vehicle.

Dillingham was pulling a rolling suitcase and Clevenger said it is unclear why he was in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive head and internal trauma.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
