ROCKFORD, IL : Motorcyclist dead after crash near West State Street and Pierpont Avenue on Sunday, 22nd July 2018

A motorcylist is dead after a crash with a Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy squad car near West State Street and Pierpont Avenue late Sunday night.

The crash occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m.

The Rockford Police Department is investigating the crash.

The department released the following information in its Twtter account: “It appears a motorcycle hit the rear of a stopped (Winnebago County) squad car. Motorcyclist died, deputy uninjured. Please avoid the area.”

Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz confirmed that one is dead, but had no further information to release Sunday night.

Police released an advisory early Monday morning asking people to avoid the intersection for the next several hours.

Suggested alternate routes were School Street to the north and Elm Street to the south.
