PLANT CITY, FL : Man dies in Plant City crash after suffering medical emergency on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

An elderly Zephyrhills man died Wednesday morning after suffering a medical emergency while driving and losing control of his vehicle.

James R. Smith, 70, was driving a 2007 GMC pickup truck north on State Road 39, just north of Patrinostro Road in Plant City, when he suffered a medical emergency about 10:45 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

He lost control of the truck, which then rolled into the west shoulder of the road, hit a mailbox and a ditch, went airborne and crashed into a tree. The driver died from his injuries at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
