Durham,NH : Part of Route 4 closed in Durham after crash involving tractor-trailer, 3 cars on February, Friday 9th 2018
Route 4 was shut down Friday morning in Durham after a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and three other vehicles.
Route 4 was closed about 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Madbury Road. Several people were taken to hospitals after the four vehicles collided.
Police said the four vehicles were all headed in different directions at the time of the crash. The tractor-trailer was traveling east on Route 4 when it collided with a white Jeep that was crossing the intersection on Madbury Road, police said. Both drivers were taken to Portsmouth Hospital, and the Jeep driver was in serious condition, officials said.
A van with five occupants traveling west on Route 4 was also involved in the collision, and three of its passengers were taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. A blue Toyota traveling south on Madbury Road was also struck, and that driver was uninjured.
"The speed limit is reduced in this area to 40 mph, but traffic is coming through here sometimes faster than the speed limit, so it's a very tricky intersection," Deputy Chief Rene Kelley said. "You really have to pay attention to what you're doing."
Police said that once they determined who was at fault, they anticipate there will be charges.
