The names of seven teenagers injured in an accident early Wednesday morning on South Cut Creek Road about 10 miles east of Wellfleet have been released by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Roland Kramer, chief deputy, said the driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Ty C. Sutphen, of Lakeside. Six occupants included Andrea J. Burkhardt, 19, of Winnetoon; Wyatt J. Naughtin, 18, of Bartlett; Peyden J. Prince, 19, of Drummond, Montana; Madison M. St. John, 19, of Hastings; Tyler L. Varney, 18, of Mason, and Rachel C. Dather, 18, of Verdigre. All but Dather were transported to Great Plains Health for treatment. Dather was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. All occupants received serious to life-threatening injuries in the accident. Kramer said an accident reconstructionist determined the black 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Sutphen was driving southbound on Cut Creek Road too fast to make a corner. The vehicle left the roadway and went airborne into an 8-10 foot ravine. It came to rest on its wheels.Kramer said alcohol is believed to be a factor and the case remains under investigation. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
