MONROE TOWNSHIP, OH : Area man dies in crash on Saturday, July 22, 2017

A Conneaut man waiting for help for a disabled trailer on the back of his truck was killed early Saturday morning when he was struck by a southbound vehicle on Route 7 just south of Hammond Corners Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office.

Theodore English, 63, was waiting for help when the crash occurred, according to an OHP press release prepared by Lt. B.O. Henderson. Henderson states that the vehicle struck the trailer and English was pinned beneath the trailer.

“He was pronounced dead at 7:19 a.m. by members of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department,” said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Keith Stewart. He said the driver of the car was Lorrie Duncan, 55, of Conneaut, and she was taken to UH Conneaut Medical Center.

“The vehicle that was southbound for some reason struck the trailer,” Stewart said.

Stewart said OHP blocked the road and brought a crash re-construction crew to the scene.

English was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, Stewart said. He said preliminary results would not be ready for several days.

Pierpont Fire Department assisted at the scene, Henderson stated. The crash is still under investigation.
