Pocatello, ID : 2 killed, 5 injured in Christmas crash near Pocatello on Thursday, December 25, 2014
A mother and daughter died and five of the woman's other children were injured in a rollover crash on a snowy interstate south of Pocatello, authorities said.
Rachel Hollibaugh, 38, of Dietrich, Idaho, died at the scene late Christmas morning as did her 14-year-old daughter, Tanessa Hollibaugh. The Idaho State Police said the five injured children were taken to a Pocatello hospital.
A health supervisor at Portneuf Medical Center said she could only confirm that four children were taken to the hospital. She said three children were treated and released, and a fourth was still at the hospital with an injury that did not appear life-threatening.
According to police, the mother lost control of a Ford F-250 pickup at about 11 a.m., and the vehicle rolled before coming to rest on its top. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Idaho State Journal reported that both lanes of Interstate 15 were closed for about two hours after the crash that occurred as a winter storm dropped several inches of snow on the area.
The National Weather Service and police asked people to avoid travel, if possible, because many Eastern Idaho roads were snow and ice covered and visibility was limited. Interstates 15, 86 and 84 were expected to be especially difficult.
Snow fell late Christmas Eve and the weather service issued a winter storm warning for Thursday.
