PANAMA CITY, FL : Three killed in weekend accidents on Friday, February 17th 2017
Unrelated crashes during the weekend resulted in the deaths of three people, according to official reports.
The crashes spanned the region from Gulf County to Panama City and resulted in the deaths of a motorcyclist, a bicyclist and a 14-year-old pedestrian.
The first occurred about 5 p.m. Friday, when an Illinois motorcyclist was critically injured in Panama City Beach in a single-vehicle crash. It happened on South Thomas Drive near the Shores of Panama Condominiums, the Panama City Beach Police Department (PCBPD) reported.
Police identified the driver as 36-year-old John Whited. Officers reported Whited was driving a Honda Shadow motorcycle when he hit a curb on Thomas Drive and was thrown from the bike. Officers arrived to find Whited on a sidewalk on the south side of Thomas Drive, police reported.
Whited was taken to Bay Medical Sacred Heart with critical injuries. He died at the hospital about 11 a.m. Sunday, PCBPD reported.
Later that evening, 14-year-old Nathan Todd of Panama City was walking in the area of State 22 and Nelle Street when he was struck by a car, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports.
Troopers reported Todd was walking eastbound in the roadway of State 22 as 34-year-old Kristina Muszynski and 34-year-old Andrew Medley, both of Panama City, were traveling west on the road about 11:30 p.m. in a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. Todd was rushed to a Tallahassee hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, FHP reported.
On Sunday morning, a bicyclist died after being rear-ended in Gulf County by an SUV, FHP reported.
Katherine Macon Bryant, 51, of Houston, was riding a bike about 10 a.m. north along County 386 near Big Bend Drive. Meanwhile, 39-year-old Amy Brock of Bainbridge, Georgia, was driving a 2013 Ford Explorer in the same direction on the road, FHP reported.
Brock crashed into the rear of Bryant's bicycle, troopers reported. Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges are pending investigation in the deaths of Bryant and Todd. Investigators also are looking into the cause of Whited's crash.
