Memphis , TN : 11-years old Boy was killed and another Child was injured after they were hit by a car near Jones Road On Saturday afternoon , January 24th 2015
One young boy was injured and one was killed when they were hit by a car on Raleigh Millington Road near Jones Road Saturday afternoon.
Joshua McDowell, 11, died on the scene.
McDowell's family says he enjoyed playing football; his family saw a bright future ahead of him. Knowing he'll never get to live out his dreams is what his family says hurts the most.
"The fact that he will not be able to go through his teenage years to even live life to see what God has in store for him," said McDowell's aunt, Cynthia Taylor.
McDowell was killed Saturday when, according to police, the driver of a Kia Sedona lost control and hit the boys as they were walking to a nearby corner store with a group of people on Jones Road in Raleigh.
The second boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition.
"It's unfair that any mother has to go through this," said Taylor.
McDowell is Lashuna Manning's youngest nephew. She and the entire family are now forced to make sense of this tragedy.
"He was just being a kid, and it's bad that kids can't go out and play now without being cautious if you're going to get hit by a car or a bullet or whatever," commented Manning.
Police say the driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
Curtis Stephenson says his two sisters were in the car, and one of them was pregnant.
"I feel for the mother who lost her baby," said Stephenson. "That's a hurtful feeling, and I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.
