Joplin, MO : Nevada man dies in accident near Carthage on Tuesday, November, 14th 2017
A Nevada, Missouri, man died in a single-vehicle crash about 8 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 49, about a mile north of Carthage in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Vernon Howrey, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Howrey's northbound van, according to the patrol, ran off the road and hit some small trees.
• A Kansas City, Missouri, man was injured in a single-vehicle accident about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 49, about 5 miles north of Anderson in McDonald County, according to the state patrol.
Halimo N. Kusow, 23, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with minor injuries.
According to the patrol, Kusow's vehicle ran off the road and hit a rock bluff.
• A Springfield woman was seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 96, about 2.5 miles west of Halltown in Lawrence County, according to the state patrol.
Zandria J. Orman, 27, a driver of one of the vehicles, was taken to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. Lowell S. Ryals, 57, of Lockwood, driver of another vehicle, and a passenger, Samantha J. Ryals, 52, of Lockwood, were taken to Cox South with minor injuries.
The patrol reported that a vehicle driven by Howard W. Hodgson, 71, of Everton, stopped to make a left turn and was struck by the Orman vehicle, which then spun into the westbound lane and was struck by the Ryals vehicle and then by a vehicle driven by Thomas D. Lacy, 54, of Miller.
• A Webb City resident was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 270, about 7 miles north of Joplin in Jasper County, according to the state patrol.
Shelby N. Sullivan, 19, was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with moderate injuries.
The patrol said the Sullivan vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a tractor driven by Zachary L. Joyce, 29, of Carthage.
• A Pineville resident was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident about 8 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 90, about 2 miles east of Jane, according to the state patrol.
Brenda L. McNelly, 59, was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas.
McNelly, according to the patrol, overcorrected her vehicle, which slid off the road and overturned in a dry creek bed.
