Chesterfield, MI : Armada man killed in Chesterfield crash on 23 Mile Road on Wednesday, 9th January 2019

Chesterfield Township police are investigating a traffic crash early Wednesday morning on 23 Mile Road, east of Sass Road, that killed a 31-year old Armada man.

The Armada man was walking west along 23 Mile Road with another 31-year old at 1:15 a.m. when they were both struck by a Ford sport-utility vehicle driven by a 22-year old man from Chesterfield. The SUV rolled over after the collision, township police reported in a news release.

The victim was transported to McLaren Macomb hospital where he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning while his friend was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured. Police arrested him at the scene but later released him.

It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident but no charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon. Township police reopened the road around 4:45 a.m. Police Chief Brad Kersten said officers will send their findings to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine whether the driver will be charged.The identities of the driver and deceased were not immediately divulged by police.
