Los Gatos, CA : Motorcyclist dies following collision with car on Highway 17 near Redwood Estates Friday, July 22, 2016

A motorcyclist died Friday after being hit by a car on southbound Highway 17 near Redwood Estates, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 11:45 a.m. just north of Madrone Road, said CHP Officer Ross Lee.

A Honda Accord changed lanes and hit the motorcyclist, causing him to lose control of his Harley-Davidson, overturn and slide into an embankment, according to the CHP.

Lee said the motorcyclist suffered major internal injuries and was pronounced dead around 1 p.m. at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The CHP identified the driver of the car as Thomas Karl Harness, 53, of Soquel. The identity of the motorcyclist was not released, but Lee said he was a 69-year-old Scotts Valley resident.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors, Lee said.
