FREETOWN, MA : One person dead in Freetown car crash on Friday, December 30th 2016

A Freetown woman is dead following a car crash Friday night, and her friend is now being charged with a DUI, according to police.

Police say 36-year-old Jennifer Bartlett was driving on Richmond Road when her car crossed into on-coming traffic, skidded off the road, and hit a tree.

Bartlett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers found another driver, 47-year-old Edward Benfeito, next to the vehicle intoxicated.

Authorities believe Benfeito had been following Bartlett’s car before the crash.

The 47-year-old is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning at the Fall River Justice Center.

The cause of the crash is remains under investigation.
